Client results

Real savings. Real care homes.

Every care home we work with is different. Here are some of the results we've achieved for clients across the UK — from single homes to multi-site groups.

Solar PV + Battery Storage

£67,000 saved in year one across three Yorkshire care homes

Meadowbrook Care GroupYorkshire3 sites, 180 beds
Meadowbrook Care Group

The challenge

Meadowbrook Care Group were facing rapidly rising energy costs across their three Yorkshire sites. With ageing electrical infrastructure and no renewable generation in place, their energy spend had increased by 38% over two years. They needed a solution that could be delivered across multiple sites without disrupting residents.

What we did

We carried out a full energy audit across all three sites and specified a combined Solar PV and battery storage system sized to each building's roof space and consumption profile. Working with two of our vetted Yorkshire-based installation partners, we phased the installation over six weeks — scheduling all roof work during quieter daytime periods to avoid disturbing residents.

Results

£67,000 reduction in energy costs in year one
42% of electricity now self-generated across the group
Battery storage reduces grid dependency during peak tariff periods
Full payback projected within 6.5 years

Greystones managed the whole process — from the initial audit to the final commissioning. We didn't have to think about it, and the savings have been exactly as projected.

LED Lighting + Smart Controls

68% reduction in lighting costs — and noticeably better light quality for residents

Ashfield Residential CareMidlandsSingle site, 62 beds
Ashfield Residential Care

The challenge

Ashfield Residential Care had a mix of ageing fluorescent and halogen lighting throughout their 62-bed home. Lighting accounted for nearly 22% of their total electricity bill, and the quality of light in communal areas and corridors was a concern raised in their most recent CQC inspection.

What we did

We surveyed the entire building and specified a full LED replacement programme, including tunable white lighting in communal areas to support residents' circadian rhythms. Smart controls were installed to manage lighting levels by zone and time of day, with occupancy sensors in lower-traffic areas. Installation was completed over four days with no disruption to residents.

Results

68% reduction in lighting energy costs
Annual saving of £8,400
Improved light quality noted in subsequent CQC inspection
Full payback achieved in under 3 years

The difference in the quality of light is immediately noticeable — residents and staff have both commented on it. And the savings were better than we expected.

Smart Metering + Bill Reduction

£112,000 in procurement savings — without a single installation

Sunnyside Care HomesSouth West5 sites, 290 beds
Sunnyside Care Homes

The challenge

Sunnyside Care Homes had five sites across the South West, all on legacy energy contracts that had rolled onto expensive out-of-contract rates. They had no visibility of real-time consumption and no way to identify which sites were performing well or poorly from an energy perspective.

What we did

We started with a full procurement review across all five sites, renegotiating contracts with suppliers across the market and securing significantly better rates. We then installed real-time sub-metering at each site, giving the central management team live dashboards showing consumption by building and by zone. Within three months, the data had identified two sites with significant overnight consumption anomalies — both traced to faulty equipment.

Results

£112,000 in annual procurement savings across the group
Live consumption dashboards for all five sites
Two equipment faults identified and resolved via metering data
ESOS compliance data now generated automatically

We had no idea how much we were overpaying until Greystones showed us. The metering data has also changed how we manage our sites day to day.

Far Infrared Heating

Warmer rooms, lower bills — and residents who notice the difference

Heathfield Manor Care HomeEast AngliaSingle site, 44 beds
Heathfield Manor Care Home

The challenge

Heathfield Manor is a converted Victorian manor house with poor thermal performance and an ageing wet radiator system that was expensive to run and difficult to control. Residents in certain rooms consistently reported feeling cold, and the heating system was consuming a disproportionate share of the home's energy budget.

What we did

Following a detailed heating assessment, we specified far infrared heating panels for the bedrooms and key communal areas, supplemented by smart zone controls throughout the building. The infrared panels were installed room by room over two weeks, with residents temporarily relocated to adjacent rooms during each installation — a process managed carefully by the home's own team with our support.

Results

31% reduction in heating energy costs
Annual saving of £14,200
Resident comfort complaints reduced to zero in post-installation survey
Zone-by-zone control now available to care staff via tablet

The residents noticed the difference almost immediately — the rooms feel warmer without the heating being on constantly. And the bills have come down significantly.
